Data or Digital sovereignty? What and why?

Data Sovereignty is a hot topic. As more and more of our lives are lived online and we are getting used to this digitalised world, the ability to control our data becomes more important than ever before.

Digita Data Sovereignty

What is it and why should you care?

Data sovereignty is the idea that data should be stored and processed within the borders of the country in which it was collected. This is important for a number of reasons, including the fact that data collected in one country may be subject to different laws than data collected in another country. Data sovereignty is also important for data protection. For example, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires that data collected in the EU be stored in an EU-approved country. This is to ensure that the data is subject to EU data protection laws (which differ from the American Digital Services Act).

It is a fact that 92% of data from the West is hosted in the US and only 4% is stored in Europe. And it is understandable. Hyperscalers are everywhere and most of the time very accessible. But you have to check if the hyperscaler can give you the privacy and security you need and want. If you’re doing business online, data sovereignty is something you should care about. After all, your data is your business – and you should have the final say on where it is stored, how it’s used, who has access and when they have the right to access.

Data sovereignty is an important part of the GDPR, and a key concept in open source. It has been part of our DNA since the beginning of Fuga Cloud in 2013. And it almost goes without saying that in the 25 years of Cyso Group existence, data security is one of its pillars.

At the end of the day, we care about your digital sovereignty because we want you to be in control of your data. We believe that data should be accessible and easy to use, without sacrificing security or privacy. If you want to talk more about digital sovereignty or data security, visit us at E-comm Berlin 2023, February 23rd. You’ll find us in Hall7 stand C1.4.

If you are not going to Berlin but you do want to know more about our services, please contact us, and we will schedule an (online) meeting with you.
